EAD hosts Sarah Al Amiri in celebration of Emirati Women’s Day ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 27th Aug, 2018) In celebration of Emirati Women’s Day, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, EAD, hosted Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences and Chairwoman of the UAE Council of Scientists, who addressed an event organised by the agency to celebrate that day.

The event, which was held at the EAD Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, under the theme "Championing the Role of Science in Conservation for 20 years," celebrated Emirati women in science and the environment and their role over the past two decades.

Al Amiri shared with the EAD’s employees her vision and aspirations for the role of science and the importance of adopting advanced science and scientific research to consolidate the distinguished position of the UAE among the countries of the world.

Al Amiri also spoke about her role in overseeing the implementation of the National Advanced Science Agenda 2031, to motivate and inspire the EAD’s staff in general and females, in particular. She also highlighted the ability of Emirati women to participate strongly in the country’s growth.

"The Emirati woman has achieved many milestones in the various scientific fields. Now she has become a global model for persistence, hard work and excellence. Today, the Emirati woman is equipped with science and advanced skills, qualifying her to engage in many scientific fields such as space, aviation, engineering and others.

"I am so proud to be here today, with this distinguished group of Emirati women in the EAD, who managed to lead vital scientific posts efficiently. I should also thank the EAD leadership for providing an enabling work environment for them, especially within the innovative ‘Women in Science and Environment’ programme, which helps women overcome the challenges that may face in their scientific and career development," Al Amiri said.

Thanking Al Amiri for joining the EAD at its Emirati Women’s Day celebration, Dr. Jaber Al Jaberi, Deputy Secretary-General at the EAD, said, "Our celebration this year is particularly important, as it coincides with the Year of Zayed, where we focus on the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, his values and principles, a man who was ahead of his time in supporting women and encouraging them to seek education.

"Thanks to Sheikh Zayed's vision, today Emirati women are highly educated, skilled and empowered partners in the development of our nation beside men, and have the opportunities they need to grow and succeed. We also offer our profound gratitude to our wise leadership who continue to support Emirati women and ensured that they have the necessary tools to achieve outstanding progress."

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director, Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity Sector at the EAD, who delivered a speech on behalf of Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, EAD’s Secretary-General, thanked the EAD’s female staff for their efforts in supporting excellence and success in implementing the agency’s strategic goals and achieving its core values.

Al Dhaheri said, "At every level of our organisation, there are highly educated, ambitious women in science investigating air quality, studying endangered species, discovering new falcon diseases and experimenting with the latest technologies. We also have inspirational women in our support services, influencing policy-making, retaining and developing talent as well as innovating in environmental protection. While they make up only 20 percent of the EAD, they are an efficient, hard-working and dedicated force, helping drive our environmental vision forward and make up 33 per cent of leadership positions."
