Russia Spending 70% of Military Budget to Develop, Purchase Arms - Minister's Adviser

Russia spends 70 percent of its military budget to develop and purchase weapons, Andrei Ilnitsky, adviser to the Russian defense minister said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) Russia spends 70 percent of its military budget to develop and purchase weapons, Andrei Ilnitsky, adviser to the Russian defense minister said on Monday.

"At least 70 percent of the military budget goes to the development and purchase of weapons," Ilnitsky told the Vesti FM broadcaster.

According to the adviser, Russia has the sixth largest military budget in world, while the United States has the biggest.

"This is a huge budget, so if Russia works 'in pursuit of something' it will be doomed to be defeated by the disparity of opportunities and resources. In this regard, we need to seek our own approaches to ensuring our country's security," Ilnitsky added.

According to the budget approved by the government, expenditures for the "National Defense" section in 2018 amount to 943.6 billion rubles ($14 billion), while those for "National security and law enforcement" section total 1.3 trillion rubles ($19.3 billion).
