Iranian President Rouhani, Qatari Emir Discuss Developing Bilateral Cooperation Over Phone

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th August, 2018) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani discussed on Sunday in a phone conversation bilateral cooperation and Tehran's tense relations with Washington.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been willing to develop and deepen relations with Qatar as a friendly country in a critical region ... There are ample potentials and opportunities for cementing relations between Iran and Qatar in political and economic fields and there is no obstacle on the way of deepening these relations," Rouhani was quoted as saying by his official website.

The emir, in turn, voiced Qatar's support for Rouhani's stand on the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

"The Qatari government has always sought to consolidate its relations with Tehran and supports peaceful solutions to political problems," the emir said, as quoted in the same statement.

The two countries have been developing closer ties since June, when Tehran provided substantial support to Qatar amid the diplomatic and economic blockade imposed on Doha following a souring in Qatar's relations with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain, who broke off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the country of supporting terrorism.
