Belarus Ready To Contribute To Syria's Post-War Rebuilding Efforts - President

MINSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th August, 2018) Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Sunday congratulated his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two states and expressed readiness to help the Syrian authorities rebuilt the war-torn country.

"It is with pleasure that we can see the war ending with the victory of the Syrian army, and people, united under your leadership, returning to their normal lives. We are ready to provide the comprehensive assistance to Syria in rebuilding the country," Lukashenko wrote in his letter to Assad, as quoted by his press service.

Both Minsk and Damascus sought the formation of the multipolar world based on the respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country and the right of every nation to develop independently, Lukashenko added.

According to the Belarusian presidents press service, Assad also congratulated Lukashenko on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Belarusian-Syrian diplomatic ties and expressed readiness for further bilateral cooperation.

The Syrian president appreciated Minsks support to Damascus in its fight against terrorism, the press service noted.

Syria has been mired in a civil war for years. The situation in the country has been deteriorated due to the activities of terrorists, who once held control over vast territories of the middle Eastern state. However, the forces of Assad have managed to recapture most of the territories from terrorists over the past years.

Rebuilding and reconstruction efforts are underway in the country as thousands of people are returning to their homes in Syria.
