WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) US Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a statement on Thursday said the Justice Department will not be improperly influenced by politics.
Earlier in the day, Trump during an interview with FOX news slammed Sessions again for recusing himself from the Russia probe and said the attorney general has lost control of the Justice Department.
"While I am Attorney General, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations," Sessions said. "I demand the highest standards, and where they are not met, I take action."
The attorney general also said he took control of the Justice Department the day he was sworn in and under his leadership the department has succeeded in many areas, including the enforcement of immigration laws and the reduction of violent crime.
Sessions said no nation has more dedicated prosecutors and investigators than the United States.
US Special Counsel Robert Mueller is heading an investigation into the Trump campaigns possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential race. Russia and Trump have repeatedly denied allegations of collusion and Moscow has refuted charges of interfering in US internal affairs.
