London Aware Russian Navy Ships Act In Compliance With International Law - Russian Embassy

LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) Ships of the Russian Navy act in compliance with the norms of international law and pose no threat to the United Kingdom, a representative of the Russian Embassy in London told Sputnik on Wednesday.

The UK Royal Navy said earlier in the day that its minehunter HMS Hurworth and a Wildcat HMA2 helicopter had been dispatched to monitor the movements of the Russian frigate Admiral Makarov sailing through the English Channel.

"The Russian Navy ships act in compliance with international law and strictly adhere to the existing rules of transit of military vessels through the English Channel. They pose no threat to the United Kingdom, and the UK side is well aware of it," the representative said.

According to the Royal Navy, in the past two months, patrol ship HMS Mersey, destroyer HMS Diamond and frigate Montrose had been sent to observe Russian ships passing the United Kingdom.

The Russian-UK relations hit a new low following the poisoning of Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury in early March. The United Kingdom and its allies have accused Moscow of having orchestrated the attack with what UK experts claimed was the A234 nerve agent. Russian authorities have strongly rejected the allegations as groundless.
