Kremlin To Study Rights Council's Proposal To Decriminalize Religious Intolerance - Peskov

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) The Kremlin will examine a proposal by the Russian Human Rights Council to decriminalize acts offending religious feelings, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

"This is a very sensitive issue and, of course, the relevant department of the presidential administration, lawyers and the main legal department will examine these proposals," Peskov told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Russia's RBK media holding reported, citing a source, that the Human Rights Council prepared a package of proposals on amending Russia's anti-extremism legislation. The council is reportedly in favor of decriminalizing public disparagement on the basis of sex, race, nationality, language, origin and religious beliefs, and establishing administrative responsibility.
