US Congressman Indicted For Using Campaign Funds For Personal Expenses - Justice Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) A US grand jury indicted US Congressman Duncan Hunter and his wife for using more than $250,000 in campaign funds to pay for personal expenses and filing false records, the Justice Department said in a press release.

"Hunter and his wife, Margaret E. Hunter, were indicted by a federal grand jury today on charges that they concerted more than $250,000 in campaign funds to pay for personal expenses and filed false campaign finance records with the Federal Election Commission [FEC]," the release said on Tuesday.

Hunter and his wife from 2009 through 2016 used campaign funds for school tuition and family vacations to Italy, Hawaii, Phoenix, Arizona, and Idaho in addition to domestic and international travel for around a dozen relatives, the release added.

The Hunters concealed their personal spending by mischaracterizing the purchases in FEC filings as campaign travel, dinner with volunteers and other related cover stories including charities.
