The Institute of Directors (IoD), a London-based business organization for company directors, on Tuesday welcomed the countrys new export strategy, published earlier in the day, which intends to increase the countrys total exports after Brexit.

"This Strategy is a strong first step towards a long-term, practical and targeted approach to boosting UK exports. The Government has clearly listened to business representative groups like the IoD in focusing on areas where it can make a difference and not seeking to duplicate the role of the private sector," Allie Renison, head of Europe and Trade Policy at the IoD, said, as quoted in a press release.
She also welcomed the fact that the UK Department for International Trade had taken IoDs recommendations into consideration, including examining variants in reducing non-tariff barriers beyond free trade agreements as well as creating an online portal for support of all exports and information on foreign markets.
According to the new strategy, UK exports are meant to grow to 35 percent of the total GDP, up from last year's 30 percent. The government's strategy will be to encourage more businesses to export, inform and advise more companies on exporting, as well as to help UK businesses connect to buyers and markets abroad.
The United Kingdom is expected to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019.
