BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended on Tuesday the presentation of two modernized MiG-29 fighter jets, which Serbia received as part of military aid from Russia, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

The presentation was held at the Batajnica Air Base, located in the vicinity of the country's capital of Belgrade. Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Chepurin was also present.

"Today is an important day, you've seen the strong wings of Serbia, the first two modernized airplanes that were put into operation," Vucic said after the jets' landing.

Vucic thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for contributing to making the country's armed forces stronger.

He added that a total of eight MiG-29 fighter jets would participate in the grand military parade dated to the liberation of Belgrade in World War II. The parade will be held on November 11 in the Serbian capital. According to media reports, Putin is willing to attend the event.

In July, the Serbian Defense Ministry confirmed that it was conducting the first training flights on six modernized MiG-29 jets that were transferred to Serbia from Russia in October 2017. Vucic voiced his hope then that the jets would be put into operation by the Serbian Air Force by early November, and also said that negotiations on supplies of three Mi-17 transport helicopters and four Mi-35 attack helicopters were underway.
