Asian Nations May Start to Use Russian-Made Police Robots in 2019-2020 - Manufacturer

Russian-made police robots might start being used by law enforcement in Asian countries, including China and South Korea, in 2019-2020, a co-founder and development director of Russian company Promobot told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Russian-made police robots might start being used by law enforcement in Asian countries, including China and South Korea, in 2019-2020, a co-founder and development director of Russian company Promobot told Sputnik on Monday.

In July, a pilot project involving the use of a Promobot-produced police robot was launched in Kazakhstan.

"We plan to expand this project so that it entails other countries. We have already received requests from Uzbekistan and the middle East. The police robots may also work in Asia because there has been a similar request from South Korea We believe that the Chinese authorities will surely be interested in this there is a major surveillance and crime prevention program there," Oleg Kivokurtsev said.

The use of this robot might become a part of the crime prevention program and increase the effectiveness of the work of Chinese security services, Kivokurtsev noted.

The robot is designed to notify law enforcement about danger. It may patrol a certain area around the clock to make footage that would then be synchronized with the police databases in order to detect criminals. Moreover, the robot is capable of reporting to the police upon hearing certain key words, such as terrorism or bomb, and of checking fingerprints of suspicious individuals on the spot.

The official noted that the Chinese market was interested in using these kinds of products, which meant that Promobot would have to cope with competition from local robotics firms there. However, Kivokurtsev pointed out that the quality of his companys products was better than of those produced by Chinese firms.

Promobot has not yet engaged in talks with the Chinese authorities on implementing police robots. The company will offer police cooperation as soon as data from the pilot project in Kazakhstan is assessed, according to Kivokurtsev.

In 2015, Promobot concluded a partnership agreement with a Chinese company which became an official distributor of its products in the country. Around 15 robots had been delivered to the Asian country since then, Kivokurtsev said.

Promobot was founded in 2015 and has become the largest manufacturer of autonomous service robots, capable of performing various tasks for humans, in Russia, as well as Northern and Eastern Europe. The company has clients in 25 countries.
