UAE Press: Kabul suicide bombing was despicable and cowardly

In an editorial on Saturday, the Gulf News said that right now, around the world, high school students are sitting for university entrance exams

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 18th Aug, 2018) In an editorial on Saturday, the Gulf news said that right now, around the world, high school students are sitting for university entrance exams, or waiting for results of tests recently taken that will determine their future. "But in Kabul, the joy of such an enthusiastic time has been shattered by the evil acts of a suicide bomber, setting off an explosion in the midst of teens sitting for a university entrance test that killed 48 and maimed scores more."

"It’s hard to fathom the depths of depravity that drive an individual or inspire a group to commit such terrorist atrocities," the English language daily added.

The newspaper went on to say that the bomber hit a private education centre in the Dasht-I-Barcha district of the capital, purposely targeting the Shiite students in a blatant attempt to inflame sectarian hatred and trigger civilian unrest. "Indeed, given the nature of the bombing, Afghanistan’s security community believes the act of terrorism to be the work of killers aligned with Daesh.

"For the government of Afghanistan, there can be no quarter given in their efforts to eradicate extremism and terrorists. Now, with the government engaging with the Taliban in talks to end their incessant campaign against the people and institutions of Afghanistan, the security forces and police services need to double down on their efforts to ensure the safety and security of all," it continued.

"Certainly, as this deadly atrocity attests, there are dark forces within Afghanistan who are prepared to use any lull or moment of perceived weakness as a pretext to advance their narrow agendas and wreak havoc. Regardless of who is responsible for this atrocity, the government in Kabul must not be deterred from sitting down with the Taliban to find some common ground," the Dubai-based daily concluded.
