PTI's Asad Qaiser sworn in as NA speaker amid opposition protests

Outgoing Speaker Ayaz Sadiq administered oath to Asad Qaiser. 

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 15th August, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Asad Qaiser took oath as the new speaker of National Assembly.

The voting process for electing Speaker National Assembly concluded here on Wednesday at Parliament house.

Announcing the result, outgoing Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that a total 330 votes were polled out of which eight votes were rejected. Asad Qaiser won the election of speaker with 176 votes while Khurshid Shah got 146 votes, he said.

Just as he announced the result, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Murtaza Javed Abbasi took to the mic and said, "Jaali mandate na-manzoor, loton k vote na-manzoor, Vote ko izzat do" (We don't accept the fake mandate, we don't accept the votes of turncoats, give respect to vote).

Asad Qaiser took oath amid these protests from the opposition who continued to chant the slogans of 'Vote ko izzat do' (Give respect to vote).

The opposition protested in front of the speaker desk carrying posters of Nawaz Sharif.

Only two candidates including Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Syed Khurseed Ahmed Shah and PTI's Asad Qaiser contested for the top slot. The election was held through secret ballot.
