Canadian Arms Manufacturer To Deliver Sniper Rifles To Ukraine Under $770,000 Deal - Chief

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Ross Spagrud, the owner of Winnipeg-based PGW Defense Technologies, a Canadian private arms manufacturer, said that the company had signed a contract with Ukraine to deliver LRT-3 sniper weapons systems totaling approximately 1 million Canadian Dollars ($770,000).

"Negotiations took about three or four months and we signed a contract in the end ... We have a long history of exporting, we are very experienced in it," Spagrud told the UA tv broadcaster.

The sniper rifles will be delivered in fall, and the contract also prescribes certain after-sales support, service and training, Spagrud added.

In July, Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said that Ottawa planned to provide Ukraine with military aid totaling $7 million until March 2019.

In late May, acting head of the General Directorate of Military Cooperation and Peacekeeping Operations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff Valentin Levchik said that Ukraine received this year weapons worth more than $40 million from NATO countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Lithuania.

Russia has expressed its concerns over Kiev being given lethal arms, saying that such actions would only exacerbate the conflict in the country's eastern Donbas region.
