Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 2nd August, 2018) The Supreme Court on Thursday disqualified former minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry for five years in the contempt of court case.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmad, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Faisal Arab announced the verdict.

After being convicted by the top court, the former lawmaker is ineligible to contest election for the next five years and hold public office.

At PML-N's Jarianwala public meeting, the PML-N leader had allegedly criticized the judiciary, saying, "There was a time when the Kaabah was full of idols. Today, the judiciary is also full of PCO judges."

He had allegedly asked the party chief to throw "those judges out because they will not do justice."

On May 21, Talal Chaudhry had recorded his statement under Section 342 of Code of Criminal Procedure. He had requested the court to withdraw contempt charges against him by not casting doubts on his intentions about the dignity of the court.

He stated that he had neither uttered anything nor acted in a manner, which might be construed as causing obstruction to the process of the court in any way, or that any order of the court had been disobeyed.

Talal Chaudhry insisted that he did not make any contemptuous remarks against the judiciary as he himself was a law graduate and know the respect of the institution.
