‘Preservation of Grace Project’ aims to achieve solidarity between community members: Sultan Al Shehi

The "Preservation of Grace Project," which is supervised by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, aims to achieve solidarity between community members and promote communication between donors and those with limited income and abstain from begging.

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 24th Jul, 2018) The "Preservation of Grace Project," which is supervised by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, aims to achieve solidarity between community members and promote communication between donors and those with limited income and abstain from begging.

Sultan Al Shehi, Manager of the Project, stated, in an interview with Emirates news Agency, WAM, that the project is a humanitarian initiative that aims to discourage the habit of wasting and throwing away food, clothes or furniture, and to redistribute them to the poor and needy.

Regarding its key initiatives during the first half of the current year, Al Shehi said that the project will organise the "International Summit for the Preservation of Grace," which will then be followed by the "International Day for Preservation of Grace."

Regarding the number of local and international families who benefitted from the project during the first half of 2018, he noted that the number of beneficiaries from the "food category" reached 824,609 while the number of beneficiaries from the "clothing category" reached 15,780 families, and 15 families from the "furniture category" benefitted from the project.

He added that the number of beneficiaries from last year’s "food category" reached 1,403,689, along with 17,000 families in the "clothing category," and 42 in the "furniture category." The project also offered around 10,381 tonnes of foreign assistance, he further added.

Al Shehi stressed that of the project’s key contributors include food companies, cooperative associations, food factories, restaurants, hotels and wedding halls, and the project has signed many cooperation agreements with government institutions and private companies.

Al Shehi further said the number of beneficiaries is increasing every year, along with the number of donors while the number of beneficiary families rises annually by 5 to 10 percent.

Al Shehi affirmed that those responsible for the project have organised applied workshops for school students, to make them the project’s ambassadors in their schools and raise the awareness of their colleagues and families. The "Ambassador of Preservation of Grace for Institutions Programme" was also launched for employees, to enable them to promote the habit of not wasting essential items and food, he said in conclusion.
