The Department of Transport, DoT, in Abu Dhabi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Dubai Maritime City Authority, DMCA, aimed at boosting development and regulating the maritime sector.
ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 04th Jul, 2018) The Department of Transport, DoT, in Abu Dhabi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Dubai Maritime City Authority, DMCA, aimed at boosting development and regulating the maritime sector.
This comes as part of the endeavour each party dedicates towards the establishment of an efficient strategic partnership to improve the position of the UAE among the best maritime centres around the world.
The MoU was signed by Khalifa Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Under-Secretary at DoT, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, PCFC, and President of the DMCA.
Speaking about the MoU, Al Mazrouei said, "This agreement is a practical indication of the strategic Federal cooperation vision that we believe in and is motivated by our obligation to cooperate with all entities in the country to accomplish all the projects that fulfil the Abu Dhabi Plan and enhance the quality of the infrastructure. I would like to offer my gratitude to the DMCA for their support and cooperation to help in positioning the UAE among the main maritime communities around the world.
"We look forward to the positive change that could be created within the local maritime sector and utilise its contributions to fulfil the development demands. This was the objective behind signing the MOU. It is a great boost to establish an integration between all sectors of the maritime safety and operation efficiency along the coasts of the UAE and establish a renewable and secured maritime sector, able to fulfil the sustainable economic growth demands in Dubai and the UAE."
The MoU states that procedures of the permits, licencing and approvals will be developed according to the best practices and offer services that result in the happiness of the customers. Additionally, a developed procedure will be designed to deal with the violations and incidents related to maritime means and personal watercraft. Both parties agreed to work towards enhancing knowledge and improving Emirati capabilities in the field, which complies with the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021.
The MoU aims at developing the licencing and permits systems followed in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in addition to providing DoT with the required information and services to enhance training and benefit from the experiences. Both parties will dedicate their efforts to achieve their objectives in the maritime sector and emphasise the importance of effective cooperation and partnership.
