Emergency alert issued as rain floods Lahore

Citizens concerned over hole created at Mall Road due to rain

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 3rd July, 2018) An emergency alert has been issued in Lahore in view of the heavy rain the city is receiving since last night.

A flood-like situation is feared following the heavy rain and thunderstorm in various areas of Punjab, including Lahore.

A part of an under construction road in front of GPO, Mall Road has gone inside the ground.

Looking at the condition of this under construction road, experts said that GPO’s historical building is also feared to be damaged because of the rain while its foundations can also get weak.

The video of a hole in the under construction road on GPO has gone viral on social media. The hole can be seen in the road while traffic continues to flow beside it. Social media users said that an alternate route should be provided to avoid any accident on this road.

The Met department had predicted on Monday that rain-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at a number of places in Punjab, Khyber Pakhunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in next 24 hours while hot and dry weather will grip other parts of the country.

More rainfall is likely at Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabaddivisions, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, D.I.Khan and Sahiwal divisions while heavy falls are also expected at isolated places in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi divisions and Kashmir during the time span.

According to Met department, monsoon currents from Arabian Sea are continuously penetrating upper parts of the country and likely to strengthen during next 24 hours.

A westerly wave is also present over upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 2-3 days, it added.
