Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation discusses preparations for 2nd International Sudanese Date Festival

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 01st Jul, 2018) General Bakri Hassan Saleh, First Vice President and Prime Minister of Sudan, has received a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, headed by Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Secretary-General of the Award.

During the meeting, which was attended by Professor Ahmed Ali Genaif, Chairman of the Sudanese Date Palm Society, the delegation presented the UAE’s efforts to organise the second International Sudanese Date Festival, which will be held from 2nd to 6th October at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum.

Bakri Saleh praised the directive of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to organise the festival in Sudan, as well as the success of its first edition and its role in supporting and developing palm agriculture and date production in Sudan.

Hamad Mohammed Humaid Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, received the delegation in his office in Khartoum to discuss its preparations for the festival, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Sudan and the Sudanese Date Palm Society.

Al Junaibi welcomed the delegation and expressed his willing to help it organise the festival, which will strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two countries.

The delegation also held individual meetings with Dr. Ibrahim Al Dakhiri, Director-General of the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development of the Arab League, and Babagana Ahmadu, Director of the food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, Office of the United Nations, UN, in Sudan. Following the meeting, the organisation and the FAO agreed to manage the selection of scientific papers, which will be presented during a scientific seminar on the sidelines of the festival, with the aim of supporting specialist scientific research related to developing palm agriculture and date production in Sudan.

The delegation concluded its tour in Sudan by meeting with the members of the festival’s organising committee, where they approved the festival’s schedule and the team’s duties.
