ECP appoints Justice (r) Dost Muhammad Khan as KP caretaker CM

Khan’s name will be sent to KP Governor House for final appointment.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 5th June, 2018) Justice (r) Dost Muhammad Khan has been appointed as the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to media reports, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) made this appointment.

Addressing a press conference, ECP Additional Secretary Dr Akhtar Majeed said that an important meeting under chief election commissioner was held today. The meeting decided to appoint Dost Muhammad Khan as the KP interim chief minister after detailed consideration and mutual consensus.

Justice (r) Khan’s name was nominated by the opposition. According to the ECP secretary, Khan has been a former judge and has a wide experience in legal matters.

Khan’s name will be sent to KP Governor House for final appointment.

Justice (r) Khan had refused taking a farewell ceremony from the Supreme Court after retiring and had denied a full curt reference. He also served as the chief justice of Peshawar High Court.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had earlier appointed Manzoor Afridi for the post. However, it dropped the name after objections by the opposition. The ECP has now taken a decision on the caretaker chief minister as the parliamentary committee constituted for the purpose could not finalize a name for the post.

The two nominees recommended each by former Chief Minister of KP and leader of the dissolved opposition, included bureaucrats Himayatullah Khan and Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi, businessperson Manzoor Khan Afridi and Justice (r) Dost Muhammad.
