Water top priority of Supreme Court: CJP Nisar

Says access to water is a basic right of our children

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 3rd June, 2018) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has said that water shortage is our biggest issue and the Supreme Court is taking it very seriously.

The chief justice held a hearing of the case regarding water shortage and dams on Monday.

Giving his remarks on the case, the chief justice said that water is a basic right of our children. “What did we give to our children if we didn’t give them water,” he said.

CJP Nisar said that he has been working on cases related to water and environment issues since 20 years. He said that he will dig 30 to 32 year old cases.

He said that water is the source of survival for Pakistan.

“India built Kishanganga Dam, drying up Neelum-Jhelum Rivers. This is a water bomb,” the CJP added.

The chief justice said that water is the top priority of Supreme Court now.

All the authorities concerned should get ready. Cases related to dams will be heard in the all the Supreme Court registries. The case will be heard in Karachi Registry on Saturday and in Lahore Registry on Sunday, he said.
