Inside story of Faizabad sit-in revealed

Ministry of Defence report makes revelations about Faizabad sit-in

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 28th May, 2018) The copy of a report prepared by Defence Ministry over the Faizabad sit-in of 2017 has been received to media outlets.

According to media reports, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was given complete authority to end the sit-in after a long meeting held in Prime Minister House. This shows that the ISI had nothing to do with the sit-in and these were mere speculations.

The Islamabad High Court had made public a Ministry of Defence report regarding the sit-in and subsequent operation last year against Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLYR) protestors at Faizabad interchange. According to the report, the government officials have rejected the notion that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was involved in orchestrating and sustaining the protest. In fact, the ministry contends that ISI made every effort to support the government in a peaceful resolution of the issue.

Commenting on this, defence analyst Gen (r) Amjad Shoaib said that the ISI officers played an important role in ending the sit-in instead of the army chief.

Talking to a program, the analyst said that Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa had no role in resolving the matter. The Faizabad sit-in was being watched by an officer of ISI. When the government contacted the army chief to resolve the matter, he advised to contact ISI as their officials have been observing the issue.

Shoaib further said that although army chief’s name was included in the agreement made with the leaders of Faizabad sit-in but the agreement was reached by the ISI officer.
