Model Zara Peerzada speaks up about soliciting of women in entertainment industry

The model shared the messages she received from an account making an 'offer'

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 28th May, 2018) Model Zara Peerzada has spoken up against the soliciting of woman in entertainment industry.

The model shared some screenshots of the messages she received from an account name Top Celebrity Services on her Instagram.

Making an ‘offer’ to the modoel, Top Celebrity Services said, “Hi we will pay u 200k for work. We deal only in celebrities, models, news anchor. We have high profile clients from abroad and Pakistan. If u will work with us we will surely prefer your privacy and dignity. We don’t do work like third class agencies. We deal in corporate side as well. If you have any query feel free to contacts us. Thanks.”

Sharing the message on her Instagram story, Peerzada said, “Soliciting every woman in entertainment is a major problem in this country's narrative of the female entertainment.”

The conversation further went on with Top Celebrity Services saying, “I am straightforward person that’s why I openly give offers. Showbiz is life of fun. What is showbiz if u think showbiz is not fun? Tell me.”

To this, Peerzada replied, “It’s about talent and expression and art.”

Commenting on these messages in her story, the model said, “Thanks Top Celebrity Service so glad - to hear that our life whether were a sex worker or not is all about 'fun'. Not merit, or hard work or talent or dedication.”

This was where things took an ugly turn and the guy behind Top Celebrity Services adopted an abusive tone for the model. “You are a big slut. I will catch you red handed in a party and tell everyone that you act all piously in direct messages. Where is your talent now? I will trace you in party soon. Do you think everyone is a fool?” he said.

Commenting on the above message, Peerzada said, “All of you shocked by the content of these messages must understand that this is only a fraction of what women in entertainment suffer on a daily basis, whether we are Meesha Shafi or Mahira Khan or just a small time model. There is daily threats and abuse because of the cultural and national perspective of women in entertainment.”

She went on to say, “Friends the answer to this is not 'just ignore it'. Telling women to ignore their reality is never the answer. That is an opinion that comes from an incredibly privileged place of power. It is not the job of women to ignore and remedy the evil the in world. It is not the job of women to turn a blind eye to cultural and global offensives to us. It is OUR job to collectively call them out and rectify them.”

About the sex workers in the industry, she said, “I will reiterate that I have nothing against sex workers. As a good friend Eman suleman once said 'don't insult them, it takes courage to be one. Courage I have not.' My anger is the perspective and assumption of women in entertainment as a whole. No matter what we do, what accolades we earn this is all we will be reduced to by a community, by a country.”

“I am not afraid of you. What I am is sick of you.
Sincerely, all women.”

The model then shared another message from the account that said, “You get drunk and have sex with people. You call that party but when we offer you a give and take, you call it soliciting.”

Peerzada responded to this, “You are in the wrong and you know it.”

Commenting on this message, she said, “Case and point - much like Meesha - if I am suspected of partying, drinking, wearing clothes a majority deems improper (even if I'm not) I DESERVE whatever you have to throw at me,” and added, “So because one deems me improper I cannot be threatened, or harassed, or anything? Because I am fundamentally unacceptable to a majority.”

Following this, the model received support from friends and fans. Thanking them all, she said, “Thank you all for your positive messages and kind words. I woke up feeling less alone today, and I think for any human that's a wonderful gift.”

This is not the first time a woman has spoken up about sexual harassment in the industry. Earlier, model and singer Meesha Shafi alleged fellow artist Ali Zafar of harassing her at multiple occasions.
