Texas shooting: Politicians extend heartfelt sympathies over Sabika Sheikh’s death 

Sabika was an exchange student in Texas and was to come back on June 9

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 19th May, 2018) Pakistani politicians have extended condolences over the death of Pakistani student Sabika Sheikh who was killed in a shooting incident in Texas on Friday.

Sabika was in the United States for Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study program and was to come back to Pakistan around Eid on June 9.

She was among the ten unfortunate people, mostly students, who were killed when a 17-year-old classmate armed with a shotgun and a revolver opened fire in a Texas high school on Friday, in the latest deadly school shooting to hit the United States. The gunman, who was arrested on murder charges, was identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old junior at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas.

While friends and family mourn over Sabika’s death, politicians in Pakistan are also aggrieved over the loss.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) President and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, "Grieved to learn about the killing of students including a Pakistani exchange student, Sabika Sheikh, in an incident of shooting at a US school. My heart-felt sympathies to bereaved families."

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan wrote, "Shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Sabika Sheikh... My prayers go to the family - May Allah give them the strength to cope with such an irreparable loss."

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry and Shireen Mazari also expressed their grievances.

Former Sindh governor Dr Ishrat ul Ibad extended his condolences.

PMLN leader Hina Parvez Butt extended her heartfelt sympathies.
