PM Abbasi’s news conference following NSC meeting deleted from PTV’s records

All this was done under the supervision of Federal Information Minister Marriyam Aurangzeb

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 15th May, 2018) The inside story for not showing Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s press conference live on Monday has been revealed.

According to media reports, the record of Abbasi’s conference has been deleted from PTV’s record. Sources said that the ptv personnel were not allowed to leave Prime Minister House after the news conference.

The DVDs of the conference were prepared there. The PTV personnel were made to delete all the record of the news conference after preparing the DVDs. All this was done under the supervision of Federal Information Minister Marriyam Aurangzeb. The PTV personnel were allowed to leave the PM house after taking all the DVDs from them.

Prime Minister Abbasi chaired a meeting of National Security Council (NSC) over the controversial statements of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif regarding Mumbai attacks. Abbasi was to address a news conference after the meeting. The journalists were invited for the press conference; however, no tv channel except PTV’s camera team was allowed to enter PM House.

Talking about this, journalist Hamid Mir revealed all the situation of the news conference, including the questions and answers. Mir said that he was present at the news conference.

“The state TV decided not to air prime minister’s news conference live and I don’t think it could be broadcast as such because Abbasi failed to answer the questions of the journalists properly.”

Mir said that Prime Minister Abbasi was pretty confused during the press conference while the ministers surrounding him were also upset. This is because Abbasi had chaired NSC meeting and the meeting’s press release condemned Nawaz Sharif’s statement regarding Mumbai attacks in an interview with Dawn newspaper.

“However, during the news conference, Abbasi said that he had met to Nawaz after the NSC meeting. Nawaz said that his statements regarding militant organizations have been misreported. To this, I immediately asked him that he had earlier condemned the statement in a press while you are now saying that Nawaz is contradicting his statement. While in his media talk at Accountability Court, Nawaz read his statement and asked if he said something wrong. He sticks to his statements but you are saying that he has been misquoted. Why didn’t Nawaz himself contradict it? Abbasi had no reply to this,” Mir said.

“Then he was asked if an action would be taken against Dawn newspaper for misquoting the former prime minister, he had no answer. He was then asked who will resign over the current political situation where Shehbaz Sharif and he contradicts Nawaz’s statement and say he has been misquoted while Nawaz sticks to it. Abbasi got defensive over this question and after some time said that he would not resign,” the journalist further revealed.

He was being asked the same question but he had no proper answer to it. Then he took a U-turn, saying that the press release issued after NSC meeting condemned Dawn’s reporting not Nawaz’s statement. The journalists said that Abbasi is misreporting facts as he is trying to twist the NSC stance, Mir added.

“Finally, he was asked if he would still say that his real prime minister is Nawaz Sharif. He first tried to dodge the question but when asked again, he said that he stands by Nawaz Sharif. This was the situation and he knew that he would have to face questions today he has no answer to, that’s why PTV was not allowed to air his news conference and I don’t think it will broadcast again,” he concluded.
