Says a person who has been appointed prime minister for three times not be expected to give such statements
Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 15th May, 2018) Over former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement regarding Mumbai attacks, Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas has said that Sharif has not addressed the real question.
He said that he can talk about history and proxy wars but a person who has been appointed prime minister for three times should not be expected to give such statements. He said that Sharif should not have given this statement as it was highly irresponsible.
He recalled that Pakistan should not have taken the position that it did in 2008. Abbas said that he himself interviewed General Durrani over the situation and added that there were ambiguities if the position we took was right. Nawaz Sharif’s statements contradict facts as he talks about a trial in the case and we are not responsible for this. He must have a record of past four years as to what has been the progress in this case, he said.
“Secondly, he talked about non-state actors. When an All Parties Conference was held in 2014 and National Action Plan was formulated, then if the plan would have been fully implemented, he would have got the answers to most of the questions,” the journalist added.
About the backlash the statement has caused, Abbas said that when there is some chaos, you ought to control it not fuel it.
“I would like to say this to everyone, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan that Article 6 of the Constitution is one specific article and it is not applicable to everything. We should try to control this situation because it has caused us embarrassment at international level,” he said.
“The National Security Council has given a detailed statement but Nawaz Sharif rejected it. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz itself is in confusion. They are unintentionally making each other controversial. We should keep in mind that anything we say or do about this statement here would have an effect on international level,” the journalist added.
