Int'l Media Needs To Change Its Perception About Pakistan: Janjua

--- Marriyum Aurangzeb Urges Media Outlets For Self-introspection Islamabad, (Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2018) : National Security Advisor (NSA) Nasser Khan Janjua has said that Pakistan is a predecessor of peace, but the perception of international media creating problems, which needs to be corrected with the reality check. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has called for self-introspection and accountability of media outlets in order to enhance their credibility.

Addressing a conference of international news agencies organized by Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) in Islamabad on Sunday under the theme of the conference is "Pakistan's Media � Opportunities and Challenges", with the special focus on "News Agencies", Nasser Khan Janjua said different perceptions exist about Pakistan in the world. He said that sometimes, it is considered a poor Muslim country that is insecure due to threats of extremism and terrorism.

It is also dubbed as a nuclear country at times where nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of terrorists; he said adding that Pakistan is being blamed for playing the double game in Afghanistan. However, these perceptions are not based on reality. Presenting a pictorial reflection of Pakistan, Nasser Khan Janjua said Pakistan is a country of over two hundred million people and holds rich culture and diversity, which needs to be highlighted in international media.

Meanwhile, addressing the conference, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb called for self-introspection and accountability of Media Outlets in order to enhance their credibility. She said media in Pakistan has evolved in 70 years to reach a level where it has become free and vibrant and is the fourth pillar of the state. The Information Minister said it is a good thing that Pakistan is completing 10 years of continuity in democracy and people will again be electing their representatives in the upcoming election.

The Minister said in the early 2000s, private tv channels entered the media landscape in Pakistan and lately the social media has also become very active and widely used especially by youth. She said Pakistan in last three decades has been dealing with challenges of terrorism and extremism and we are fighting a perception war in the world. Marriyum Aurangzeb said Pakistanis are a resilient nation and have overcome all challenges with fortitude. She said media can help bringing peace and stability in the region.
