We are liberal but can’t accept such vulgarity: CJP on women’s clothing on TV

Says what kind of clothes women wear in morning shows? What kind of morning shows are these? What type of culture do they want to promote?

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 12th May, 2018) Pakistani actors and producers appeared before the court over a hearing regarding airing Indian content on Pakistani channels.

Hearing the case in Supreme Court Karachi Registry on Saturday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that tv is showing the worst content. He added that the dressing of women at award shows is unacceptable.

Samina Aapa said that Indian content is being aired, to which the CJP said that she had snatched words from his mouth. He said that such award shows are being aired that are unacceptable for the society.

The CJP remarked that we are liberal but can’t accept such vulgarity. He said that we can’t allow modeling in inappropriate clothes. Can our sisters and daughters wear such clothes? Is the culture of our country defunct? Why don’t we promote Sindhi, Balochi and other cultures?

The court asked actor Adnan Siddiqui if he is a Sindhi, to which he replied that he is an urdu speaking. The court said you are Urdu speaking but belong to Sindh, so you are a Sindhi. The chief justice said that you yourself do a morning show – What kind of clothes women wear in morning shows? What kind of morning shows are these? What type of culture do they want to promote?

Telling off Adnan Siddiqui, CJP Nisar said that I am not asking women to wear a Burqa but we cannot tolerate vulgarity. The actor said that this is all because of Indian content. The chief justice said that they would have to decide to what extent the Indian content can be aired on Pakistani media.

The court issued notices to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and TV channels in this regard. The court also demanded a report over the laws governing foreign content on TV channels and their implementation.
