The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised a weeklong training on “Mapping of DVM Curriculum for OIE Compliance and Integrated Learning Interventions”
LAHORE (Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2018 ) The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised a weeklong training on “Mapping of DVM Curriculum for OIE Compliance and Integrated Learning Interventions”. It was conducted under the project of “In-service Training Facility of Advance Veterinary education and Professional Development for Veterinary Professionals” funded by Punjab Government here at city campus Lahore on Monday.
UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani presided over the inaugural session of the training while Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Associate Professor Dr Hafsa Zaneb and a number of participants of training were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani said in recent years DVM curriculum continue updated according to the modern day need to curb disease related issues. He said it is direly needed that our young veterinarian must know about how working in practical field with livestock farmers and how working on commercial farm houses on exotic animals by adopting latest methods and skills for the treatment of animals.
He said in recent years Punjab livestock department working actively and providing all possible clinical services to poor livestock farmers at their door steps for the development of livestock sector. He lauded organizer for arranging such an informative training and gathering experts under one roof to explore new opportunities, discuss various issues, ideas, finding deficiencies and solution, networking and innovative knowledge sharing with each other.
Dr Hafsa Zaneb spoke about the scope and objectives of the training. This training program is designed keeping in mind the local as well as global expectations from a graduating veterinarian, and the evolving teaching-learning paradigms. Increasingly, there are discussions that DVM curriculum in Pakistan can benefit from improved alignment with OIE guidelines regarding Day-1 competencies and Veterinary Education Core Curriculum. Many eminent professors and professionals will be the resource persons of the training and they will deliver lectures to the participants about evolving need to map the DVM curriculum for international compliances and accreditations.
Further down the track, they will be trained for development of table of specifications to ensure alignment of intended learning of the students with the teaching-assessment practices through modular learning interventions. Lastly, the participants will be guided through review of the existing curriculum while applying the learning achieved in the earlier sessions. The week-long training would cover major areas related to DVM curriculum, local wisdom and global compliance requirements, curricula relevance with field challenges, curricular alignment through blueprinting, why, what and how of modular integrated curriculum, case-based learning (CBL), stress management and academic publishing in veterinary science ethical issues, etc.
