LCWU VC Dr. Uzma Quraishi gave land to LDA without any compensation

According to land acquisition law, the government pays market rate for the land acquired for any projects

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 1st May, 2018) The suspended Vice Chancellor (VC) of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Dr. Uzma Quraishi gave land worth crores of rupees to Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

According to media reports, the suspended VC submitted the land adjacent to Jail Road to LDA without any procedure. According to land acquisition law, the government pays market rate for the land acquired for any projects.

The former VC gave the land to LDA without any payment and without any written agreement to address the reservations of LDA officers. The staff association of the university has asked the chief justice take a suo-motu action in this regard.

According to a news report published in a local newspaper, the government had requested Dr. Quraishi to submit a few kanals land from the college to the LDA for Jail Road signal free project. The former VC took this matter to a syndicate who decided in its 58th meeting to form a committee in this regard that will analyse the benefit and loss to the university after giving the said land and submit its recommendations.

The committee was formed with GC Women University, Faisalabad VC Noreen Quraishi as its head. The committee declared that if providing the land to LDA is so indispensable, then security, environment and monetary compensations should be decided in writing so the issues facing university after giving the land should be resolved on urgent basis.

Following this, the syndicate in its 59th meeting approved to provide the land to the government without any formalities while sources said that the quorum of the meeting was not full. Dr. Quraishi to save her seat gave the land to the government without any compensation.

The university staff pleaded the chief justice take an action on this and initiate an action against the responsible.
