Ishaq Dar not coming to Pakistan anytime soon: Hamid Mir

Dar to only return if the cases against him in NAB are closed

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 28th Apr, 2018) Talking to a private tv channel, renowned journalist Hamid Mir said that he knows Ishaq Dar from the time when he was a commerce reporter.

“My chief Anjum Rasheed used to make me cover political and court beats as well. This benefited me as I was gaining experience in all the fields. I was a commerce reporter when Ishaq Dar was the president of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and so I was in touch with him. In the same time, Moeen Qureshi’s government was formed and Imran Khan came to Ishaq Dar to collect funds for Shaukat Khanam. Khan made some objectionable remarks about Benazir Bhutto and I published it. He then asked Dar to deny this news but he did not do so,” Mir said.

He went on to say that he had an old relationship with Dar but when Panama scandal surfaced, Dar realized that he does not defend them and ask tough questions.

“Soon Dar used to attack me in programs and I responded the same way. My relationship got tensed with him. One day I asked him what’s the matter. He then said that he is under great pressure. He is the chairman of over 50 Parliamentary committees while prime minister Nawaz Sharif do not hold cabinet meetings. I have to head them and am also running the Ministry of Finance,” Mir further said.

He said, “I told him to distance himself from the government if it is not functioning properly but he did not do so. He also had differences with people surrounding Nawaz Sharif. After this, he found it appropriate to leave the country. Mir said that Dar would not return now. He has been elected Senate member. He will only return if the cases against him in National Accountability Bureau are closed. He has his personal issues as well.”
