Election Commission removes Farooq Sattar as MQM-P's convener

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar from party's convenership

Karachi (Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2018 ) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar from party's convenership. According to details, MQM-P leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Kanwar Naveed Jameel had filed an application in the ECP to remove Sattar as party's convener. Hearing the petition, the ECP decided in the favour of MQM-Bahadurabad leaders and removed Sattar from the position of MQM-P's convener.

The hearing was held by a five-member bench headed by the ECP chairman. On the other hand, Sattar had challenged the jurisdiction of the election commission. However, the ECP rejected his objections, saying that the commission is authorised to to hear the case pertaining to the party's convenership. Moreover, MQM-P's intra-party elections have also been declared invalid while the resolution of the party's General Workers Assembly has also been rejected.
