AIOU joins campaign to curb cyber crimes

Islamabad, (Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2018) : Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) here on Wednesday organized a seminar at its main campus to create awareness about the hazardous impact of cyber crimes on national security. The event was arranged by the office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization in collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). It was part of the University's ongoing activities, keeping its students and the Faculty well aware of the socio-economic issues and their responsibilities towards the society to this effect.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said on the occasion that the University will continue its efforts to expose social crimes through academic and social activities. The common perception that cyberncrimes are low-level crimes must be removed since, in reality, they are as dangerous as other conventional crimes. A senior official of the FIA (Cyber Crimes Wing) Attiq Javed spoke in details about various elements and categories of Cyber crimes.

He briefed the audience about the prevailing law on the subject. He also highlighted the role and achievements of the FIA in curbing menace of internet crimes that are mainly carried out through social media. He also spoke about the implications and challenges of this crime. He also underlined the major aspects of cyber crime law, according to which a citizen can lodge a complaint to Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) with relevant proofs for further investigation and punishment (if proven guilty). Dean Sciences Dr. Nagmana Rashid who presided over the event spoke about the University's continuous endeavor to purge the society of social evils. She also highlighted the initiatives taken by the Vice Chancellor for promoting the AIOU as a hub social, literacy and academic activities.
