Afghanistan starts biometric process for e-NIC amid ongoing controversies

The biometric process for the electronic National Identity Cards (e-NIC) has kicked off for the senior government officials including President Ghani amid ongoing controversies regarding the launch of the distribution of the cards.

KABUL, (Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2018) : The biometric process for the electronic National Identity Cards (e-NIC) has kicked off for the senior government officials including President Ghani amid ongoing controversies regarding the launch of the distribution of the cards. A spokesman for the Population Registration Department Rohullah Ahmadzai said the collection of biometric information started in ARG Palace on Thursday. He said the biometric information and other documents for the distribution of the electronic national identity cards have been collected from President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, First Lady BiBi Gul, and the Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish.

Ahmadzai further added that President Ghani will formally inaugurate the distribution of the electronic identity cards and they will soon receive their electronci National Identity cards. In the meantime, deputy presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi said the biometic collection has kicked off for all senior government officials. He said the distribution of the electronic National Identity Cards is one of the main demands of the citizens of the country and the government is committed to implement it with serious resolve. This comes as the Chief Executive of the Government Abdullah Abdullah had earlier called for the suspension of the distribution of the electronic National Identity Cards. The Office of the Chief Executive said Abdullah is expected to hold talks in this regard with President Ghani on Saturday.
