Public Confidence only way for successful policing: Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri

Community and service oriented policing is the only way to win public confidence and neighborhood watch committees would be made more effective to bridge gap between police and people.

ISLAMABAD, (Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2018) : Community and service oriented policing is the only way to win public confidence and neighborhood watch committees would be made more effective to bridge gap between police and people. It was stated by Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri while addressing the seminar at Women Welfare and Development Centre here at sector G-7/1. DIG (Operations) Mir Vais Niaz, Deputy Director Women Welfare Center Asmat Afridi, SP (City) Ahmed Iqbal, SP (Special Branch Irsala Saleem, DSPs City Zone, Human Rights Officers and students also attended the seminar.

The IGP said Islamabad police is very much committed to serve the people and enhance liasion with community through inculcating various friendly measure in order to win public support. The IGP said that developed countries acknowledge the advantages of community policing and it would be strived to ensure it here with the support of public. In neighborhood watch committees, he said students, doctors, house wives and notables have been included.

He said that main purpose of such committees is to monitor the activities around them and inform police in case of any suspicious activity. He assured that name of those given important information will be kept secret and complete coordination will be made with such person. The IGP said that police is utilizing all available resources for protection to the lives and property of citizens and said that cooperation of community is key to ensure it. He said that gender and child protection center has been established for protection to the rights of women and children. An emergency call center (8090) has been set up at Women police station to respond quickly to complaints and address them by immediately approaching the complainants. The IGP said that enhanced coordination between police and public is vital to combat anti-social elements.
