Pakistani Clerics Issue Fatwa Against Suicide Bombings

ISLAMABAD,(Pakistan Point News - 16th Jan, 2018 ) More than 1,800 Pakistani clerics from different schools of Islamic thought have issued a fatwa declaring that suicide bombings are un-Islamic. The clerics declared that suicide bombings are forbidden, or "haram," under the principles of Islam. President Mamnoon Hussain was chief guest at the launching ceremony of the Fatwa, called Paigham-e-Pakistan at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Islamic directive was revealed on January 16 in a book unveiled by President Mamnoon Hussain and the state-run International Islamic University. Hussain wrote in the book that the fatwa "provides a strong base for the stability of a moderate Islamic society." He said Pakistanis can "seek guidance" from the fatwa "for building a national narrative in order to curb extremism in keeping with the golden principles of Islam.

" Mamnoon Hussain expressed the confidence that the unanimous Fatwa issued by ulema representing different schools of thought would help address the challenges of sectarianism, extremism, and terrorism. He said issuance of the unanimous Fatwa through consultations is a step in the right direction and it would go a long way in projecting soft and positive image of Pakistan in the comity of nations. He said this would also highlight the fact that islam is a religion of peace, brotherhood, tolerance and accommodation.

He said the Fatwa represent true teachings of Islam. Speaking on the occasion, Leader of House in the Senate Raja Zafar ul Haq emphasized the need for national solidarity to rectify inadequacies of the system. He said our valiant armed forces, administration and people rendered unrivaled sacrifices in dismantling the scourge of terrorism. Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said a unanimous narrative by the Ulema against terrorism is evidence that the nation is committed to root out the scourge of terrorism and extremism from the country.

The Minister said war on terror will continue till total elimination of terrorism. Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the need for promoting unity and solidarity among our ranks to achieve a bright future. Ahsan Iqbal said efforts to combat terrorism will go waste if the international community will not fulfill its obligations.
