CALIFORNIA: (UrduPoint /Pakistan Point News-July 24th, 2026) Google has introduced a new selfie video verification feature that allows users to sign in to or recover their accounts using a short video, adding an extra layer of security against online fraud.
The new feature is designed to help combat deepfake-based scams, identity fraud, and account hacking by verifying that the person attempting to access the account is physically present.
According to Google, the selfie video option serves as an alternative sign-in method and can also be used during account recovery when conventional authentication methods are unavailable.
To activate the feature, users will be asked to record a short selfie video. Google will securely store the encrypted recording and compare it with a live video during future sign-in attempts to verify the user’s identity.
As part of the verification process, users will be required to move their heads in real time, making it more difficult for fraudsters to use deepfake videos or static images to gain unauthorized access.
Google said the stored selfie video will be protected with encryption, and users will be able to delete it at any time through their Google Account dashboard.
The rollout of the feature has begun and will gradually become available to users worldwide.
Once available, users can enable it by navigating to Google Account Settings > Security & Sign-in > Selfie Video, where they will be guided through the setup process using their phone or computer camera.
