The latest report suggests that company has moved launch to first half of 2027 instead of 2026
SAN FRANCISCO: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 8th, 2025) Meta has delayed the launch of its augmented reality (AR) smart glasses—touted as a future replacement for smartphones—until 2027, according to a new report.
The mixed-reality device, developed under the codename “Phoenix,” was previously expected to debut in the second half of 2026. The latest report, however, states that the company has moved the launch to the first half of 2027.
Meta has been investing heavily in AR technology as part of its long-term vision for wearable computing. While the company already sells virtual reality headsets and Ray-Ban–branded smart glasses, the upcoming mixed-reality glasses are expected to be significantly more advanced.
Sources say CEO Mark Zuckerberg opted for the delay to improve product quality and ensure a more polished user experience.
The timeline aligns with earlier projections: a 2023 report had also suggested that Meta’s first true AR glasses would not be ready before 2027.
In July 2024, Zuckerberg predicted that AI-powered smart glasses would eventually become an everyday accessory, claiming they could even replace smartphones. He said the technology would spark a new global trend in personal devices.
Meta first entered the smart eyewear market in 2021 through a collaboration with Ray-Ban, introducing its initial line of connected glasses.
