NordPass releases 2025 list of world’s most popular, least secure passwords

The latest findings show that “123456” topped global list for sixth time in seven years, followed by “admin” in second place and “12345678” in third position

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Nov 19th, 2025) Despite repeated cybersecurity warnings, the millions of users worldwide continue to rely on weak and easily guessable passwords, with “123456” once again emerging as the most commonly used password of 2025, according to a new report by password-management firm NordPass.

NordPass released its annual list of the world’s most popular — and least secure — passwords after analysing leaked datasets and dark-web records compiled between September 2024 and September 2025. The company has been publishing similar reports for the past seven years.

The latest findings show that “123456” topped the global list for the sixth time in seven years, followed by “admin” in second place and “12345678” in third position.

Other frequently used passwords included 123456789, 1235, password, Aa123456, 1234567890, Pass@123 and admin123, rounding off the top 10.

The report also examined password behaviour across different generations:

Generation Z (1996–2010) most commonly used 12345, 123456, and 12345678.

Millennials (Generation Y) (1981–1996) favoured 123456, 1234qwer, and 123456789.

Generation X (1965–1980) also relied heavily on 123456, followed by 123456789 and 12345.

The Cybersecurity experts once again urged users to adopt unique, complex passwords for every online account, warning that predictable patterns significantly increase the risk of hacking.

While major tech companies continue to develop password-less authentication methods, the report noted that the widespread availability may take more time.
