Sindh Health Department reports over 2.4 million screenings this month, confirming 215,270 malaria cases—mostly in Hyderabad, Larkana, and Badin with no deaths reported.
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,16, 2025) The Sindh Health Department has released a comprehensive report on malaria cases across the province, revealing that over 2.4 million people were screened this month, out of which 215,270 tested positive for the disease.
According to the report, 181,362 cases were caused by Plasmodium Vivax, 31,319 by Plasmodium Falciparum, while 2,589 were mixed infections.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho stated that the provincial government is utilizing all available resources to eradicate malaria. She noted with relief that no deaths have been reported this year, and only three patients with cerebral malaria required hospitalization, all of whom received complete treatment.
The most affected districts include Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta, Jacobabad, and Larkana, where anti-malaria measures are being implemented rapidly. Hyderabad Division recorded the highest number of cases — 101,923 in total — including 7,054 in Hyderabad, 22,293 in Jamshoro, and 19,478 in Badin.
In Larkana Division, 52,038 cases were reported, followed by 23,439 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 19,323 in Mirpurkhas, 17,021 in Sukkur, and 3,072 in Karachi Division.
Dr. Pechuho added that Sindh’s health teams are conducting daily testing, treatment, and fumigation drives across the province. Field teams are also distributing mosquito nets and running awareness campaigns, particularly in rural areas.
She emphasized that the Sindh government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and partner agencies, is implementing a comprehensive plan to combat malaria, dengue, and other vector-borne diseases. The minister urged citizens to maintain cleanliness, avoid stagnant water, use mosquito nets, and seek medical help immediately in case of fever or chills.
