PCB high performance director says skills development camp has been completed, during which players were introduced to coaching staff
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 5th, 2025) Pakistan cricket Board’s (PCB) High Performance Director Aqib Javed has admitted that the national team’s current performance is unsatisfactory in all formats of the game.
Speaking to the media, Aqib Javed stated that the skills development camp has been completed, during which players were introduced to the coaching staff.
He added that the camp has now entered its third phase, which includes mostly players from the Pakistan Shaheens, who are preparing for a tour of England. Future phases will focus on the Australia tour and red-ball player development, he said.
“Shortcomings can’t be completely fixed in six or seven days, but we are working to make players aware of their weaknesses,” Aqib noted. He emphasized that increasing the number of all-rounders and fast bowlers is a key priority, and the training program will continue until October.
Discussing upcoming tournaments, he said that the new cycle of the World Test Championship is about to begin and presents good opportunities for Pakistan. The squad selection process has been finalized and the team announcement will be made soon, he confirmed.
Aqib Javed also revealed that senior players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been given feedback on areas for improvement.
Meanwhile, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim have shown significant progress in their fitness and are actively bowling in the camp.
He highlighted that with the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup to be held in Asian conditions, teams will need to score 200-plus runs, and only those batters who fit their roles effectively—whether senior or young—will be given priority in the batting order.
Aqib further shared that the team will test various combinations in the upcoming series against Bangladesh and the West Indies, and Haris Rauf will also be given a chance. Team selection, he said, will be based on the nature of the series.
