Abu Dhabi: (Pakistan Point News - 29 June, 2025) The United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan convened the second round of political consultations in Abu Dhabi, further strengthening their longstanding bilateral relationship. The session was co-chaired by Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Shehryar Akbar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The consultations were preceded by a high-level meeting between His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and His Excellency Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. This meeting took place as part of the 12th session of the UAE-Pakistan Joint Ministerial Commission held in Abu Dhabi.
During the discussions, both sides emphasized the robust and growing partnership, noting the increase in non-oil trade, which surpassed USD 8.6 billion in 2024. The two nations reflected on recent high-level visits and explored avenues to expand cooperation in political, economic, and multilateral spheres.
Regional developments, including Middle East affairs and recent United Nations Security Council discussions, were also reviewed. The UAE welcomed Pakistan’s active role as a non-permanent member of the Council and received a briefing on Pakistan’s preparations for assuming the presidency of the Council in July 2025. Both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination at the Security Council and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and constructive solutions to regional issues.
The consultations also covered joint preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal. Both countries reiterated their commitment to maintaining regular consultations for mutual benefit.
The meeting was attended by HE Hamad Obaid Alzaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, and HE Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, along with senior officials from both countries.
