Tunisian Woman Sanda Ayari attempts suicide after divorce from Karachi man

Ministry of Interior now steps in and offers her an immediate exit permit to return to her home country

KARACHI : (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 28th, 2025) Sanda Ayari, a 19-year-old Tunisian woman, who came to Pakistan to marry a man from Lyari, Karachi, attempted suicide following a breakdown in their marriage.

The Ministry of Interior now stepped in and offered her an immediate exit permit to return to her home country.

Sanda Ayari, a resident of Tunisia, developed a friendship with Muhammad Amir, a resident of Khadda Market, Lyari, through social media. Their online relationship turned into love, and the couple decided to get married. Sanda obtained a Pakistani visa and arrived in Karachi on November 28, 2024.

Initially, the marriage was reportedly happy, but in recent months tensions arose over minor disagreements. The relationship deteriorated, and Amir eventually divorced Sanda. Her Pakistani visa expired on February 18, leaving her stranded in the country and unable to return home.

Faced with emotional and legal distress, Sanda reportedly attempted suicide before contacting the police. In a video statement, she said, “I was going to buy a ticket and leave, but Amir stopped caring about me. One day, after I threw something from the window that didn’t even fall outside, he got furious, slapped me, and twisted my arms when I reacted. Then his father also hit me and kicked me in the face when I asked Amir to intervene. After that, he divorced me.”

She further claimed that Amir’s family blamed her for the situation, which pushed her to attempt suicide by jumping from a window. “I wasn’t in my senses. Amir’s mother and the rest were all blaming me,” she added.

The Ministry of Interior responded to the situation by offering Sanda an exit permit. The visa authorities have requested the necessary documentation and instructed her to apply online to complete the process.

The incident raised concerns about the vulnerabilities of foreign nationals in domestic disputes, particularly in cases involving expired visas. The authorities have assured that Sanda will receive the required support to return safely to Tunisia.
