Pakistan, UAE remove visa requirements for officials

Breakthrough comes during 12th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting held in Abu Dhabi, marking first such session between two countries in 12 years

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 25th, 2025) In a major diplomatic development, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday agreed to abolish visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports alongside signing multiple agreements to deepen cooperation across economic and technological sectors.

The breakthrough came during the 12th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting held in Abu Dhabi, marking the first such session between the two countries in 12 years.

The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed.

Describing the talks as a significant step toward elevating strategic, economic, and developmental collaboration, Ishaq Dar shared details of the meeting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He stated that the two sides conducted a detailed review of progress in areas including trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, and information technology.

Among the key outcomes of the meeting were the signing of three major Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Most notably, both countries agreed to grant visa exemptions to individuals holding diplomatic and official passports, a move that is expected to enhance institutional engagement and streamline official travel.

The other MoUs focused on enhancing cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy, as well as promoting joint investment ventures that will further strengthen the economic partnership between the two nations.

“This agreement is a reflection of growing mutual trust, fraternal ties, and strong institutional cooperation,” Ishaq Dar said, calling the development a symbol of the deep diplomatic, commercial, and economic relations between Pakistan and the UAE.
