France considers conditional recognition of Palestinian State

French Macron calls it a moral responsibility in light of worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza

JAKARTA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 30th, 2025) French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France is seriously considering the conditional recognition of an independent Palestinian state, calling it a moral responsibility in light of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, President Macron said the ongoing crisis in Gaza requires immediate international attention and stronger diplomatic action. “The situation in Gaza is extremely alarming,” Macron stated. “Unless conditions improve, we will have to take a tougher stance on Israel.”

Macron condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians by Israeli forces, declaring such actions as "unacceptable." He further emphasized that France’s middle East policy does not operate with double standards, and that the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people must be upheld.

In the same press conference, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto voiced his firm support for the two-state solution, calling it the only viable path to long-term peace in the Middle East. He reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian statehood and promoting peace in the region.

The renewed focus on Palestinian statehood comes amid growing international outrage over the continued violence in Gaza.

Since October 2023, Israeli airstrikes and military operations have reportedly killed over 54,000 Palestinians, with a significant portion of the casualties being women and children.

Macron’s comments signal a potential shift in European policy, as pressure mounts on global powers to take concrete steps toward resolving the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

While some European nations have already recognized Palestine, France's conditional recognition—if finalized—would carry significant diplomatic weight and could influence other Western allies.

The French President’s remarks in Jakarta mark an important moment in international diplomacy and reflect the growing urgency to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Both France and Indonesia called for immediate action to halt violence, protect civilians, and resume peace negotiations aimed at a lasting resolution to the conflict.
