Operation Sandhwar exposed Indian military’s incompetence: Air Chief Singh

A.P. Singh admits no major defence project has ever been completed on time and that deals are often signed despite knowing systems may never arrive

NEW DEHLI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 30th, 2025) Indian Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh has made explosive revelations about systemic failures in the country’s defence procurement process, admitting that no major defence project has ever been completed on time and that deals are often signed despite knowing the systems may never arrive.

Speaking in the wake of Operation Sandhwar, which has rattled India’s military leadership, the Air Chief said the operation laid bare the shifting nature of warfare and exposed critical gaps in defence preparedness.

“Timelines are meaningless now. No defence project has ever met its deadline,” said A.P. Singh, adding, “We know certain systems will never be delivered, yet we still sign agreements.”

Highlighting deep-rooted inefficiencies, he described the defence acquisition strategy as shockingly unstructured: “We sign deals first and decide later what to do with them. Every project faces delays. Agreements are made, but weapons don’t arrive.”

Operation Sandhwar, a recent exercise or operation that has reportedly exposed operational vulnerabilities, has prompted widespread concern within India’s defence establishment. Singh said the operation served as a wake-up call, emphasizing the urgent need to reassess India’s military strategy in response to evolving threats.

He also questioned the integrity of defence commitments, asking bluntly, “Why do we make promises we know will not be fulfilled?”

The Air Chief’s candid remarks have sparked debate within defence and political circles, raising serious questions about transparency, efficiency, and corruption in India’s multi-billion-dollar defence procurement system.
