CM Maryam orders to cut bread [Roti] prices as flour prices go cheaper

Punjab CM says price of roti will be brought down to historically low levels

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/P Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to revise the price of roti (flatbread) in line with the recent reduction in flour prices across the province.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the Price Control Department to take immediate steps to ensure that the lower flour prices translate into reduced rates for roti. She emphasized that the relief must reach the common man without delay.

The directive is part of a broader initiative by the Punjab government to provide relief to low-income families amid inflationary pressures. The revised roti prices will be calculated proportionally based on the new flour rates and enforced uniformly across the province.

“The price of roti will be brought down to historically low levels," she stated. "The benefits of the flour price reduction must be directly passed on to the poor."

Maryam Nawaz also called for strict monitoring of the prices of essential food items, including chicken, vegetables, and lentils. Expressing concern over the rising cost of chicken, she said, "A poor child used to be able to eat affordable chicken once a week. If prices continue to rise, even that will not be possible — and I cannot accept this."
