Champions Trophy 2025: ICC releases funds for possible shift of India's matches outside Pakistan

The Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for early next year, had its budget ratified at recent ICC meetings in Colombo,

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 24th, 2024) The Cricket Council (ICC) approved extra funds for the Champions Trophy 2025 budget to address potential issues if the Indian cricket team decided to play matches outside of Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for early next year, had its budget ratified at recent ICC meetings in Colombo, though the schedule and format discussions were deferred, according to a PCB insider.

Indian media reported that the PCB has already submitted all required information in its expression of interest to the ICC.

The reports suggested that the PCB tasked the ICC with finalizing and announcing the tournament schedule and securing confirmation from the BCCI regarding the participation of the Indian team in Pakistan.

This move comes as the Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) has been tasked with persuading the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to have its team compete in Pakistan for the tournament.

The draft schedule reveals that all of India’s matches including a possible semi-final and final, are planned to be held in Lahore.

India and Pakistan would play match on March 1.

For the 2023 ODI Asia Cup, India played its matches in Sri Lanka under a ‘Hybrid Model.’

The BCCI has previously stated that any decision regarding playing in Pakistan hinges on approval from the Indian government.
