MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th October, 2022) EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that he intends to present a proposal on further military support for Ukraine at the next meeting of EU foreign ministers on October 17 and expects member states to support it.
"I will ask the leaders to support the proposal for a new tranche for European peace facility to continue providing military support to Ukraine also to the training mission. I hope that for the next Foreign Affairs Council we will have a proposal on both things," Borrell said at the doorstep of the informal EU 27 summit and meeting within the European Political Community.
On February 24, Russia began a military operation in Ukraine responding to calls for help from the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. Western countries responded by imposing comprehensive sanctions against Moscow while also ramping up their military support for Kiev.
The informal summit among 27 European leaders is taking place in Prague on Friday. It is set to feature such issues as multilateral cooperation between the EU member countries with the established and potential candidates, and assistance to Ukraine.
