Abdullah bin Zayed chairs meeting of Higher Committee on anti-money laundering, countering financing of terrorism

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2021) H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has chaired a meeting of the Higher Committee Overseeing the National Strategy on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism.

The members of the committee were briefed on the progress of the implementation of the action plan for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist finance, in addition to the committee's future plans.

During the meeting, Amna Mahmoud Fekri, the Director of the Economic and Trade Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, conducted a presentation on the money laundering, financing of terrorism portfolio, and UAE’s Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) over the past period.

The committee was also briefed on the outcomes of the first follow-up meeting on the UAE, which requested a re-evaluation of its compliance to the four technical recommendations of the middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) Office.

The country, due to the committee’s directives and the efforts of all relevant authorities, received preliminary approval to end the evaluation of all target recommendations, which is a new achievement and affirms the country’s serious efforts to develop its anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism system.

The meeting was attended by Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs; Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development; Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Khaled Mohamed Al Tameemi, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE; Ahmed Al Dhaheri, Head of State Security; Major General Talal Hamid Belhoul Al Falasi, Director-General of the State Security Department in Dubai; and Rashid Saeed Al Amri, Assistant Under-Secretary for Government Coordination Department at Presidential Affairs Ministry.
